Stephen J. Gavala, 65, of Shenandoah, passed away Friday afternoon at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street.
Born in Shenandoah, he was a son of the late Stephen Gavala and Blanche Jatkiewicz Gavala.
He
graduated from Immaculate Heart High School, Fountain Springs, Jersey
City Medical Center as a registered nurse, and Wilkes University with a
bachelor's degree in nursing.
He was a member of The Church of the Resurrection Roman Catholic Church in Fort Myers, Fla.
He lived in New York City for 23 years, where he was an administrator of the Lenox Hill Hospital.
Stephen later worked for Access Home Health Care in New York and New Jersey.
He retired to Fort Myers, Fla., in 2000 and moved back to Shenandoah one year ago.
Stephen loved to travel and he loved the theater. He was active in several theater groups in New York before he retired.
Surviving are a brother, Paul Gavala and his wife, Karen, Shenandoah; and cousins.
Mass
of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Casimir
Church, Shenandoah. Interment will be in St. Casimir Cemetery,
Shenandoah, where a white dove will be released at the graveside in his
memory. Friends may call from 11:30 Tuesday at St. Casimir Church.
