Sonia Hiney, 83, of Ashland, PA, formerly of Mahanoy City, passed away Sunday, September 15th, at her residence.

Sonia was born in Mahanoy City, PA on November 29, 1940, a daughter of the late Helen (Hoidra) and Harry Hadamaka.

Sonia graduated from Mahanoy City High School Class of 1958.

She worked for the Mahanoy City Borough as an Office Assistant for many years.  She also had a significant role in the Teen Canteen and helped to start the free lunch program in Mahanoy City.  In the 1970's she taught dance classes, also teaching dance through the United Cerebral Palsy organization.

She was a member of St. Paul's UCC Church in Mahanoy City where she was a member of the Choir and the Handbell Choir.  She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Mahanoy City Elks.

She was the wife of the late Russell Hiney for 60 wonderful years.

Sonia is survived by two daughters, Lisa Taylor of Fort Myers FL; Karen Pinchot of Ashland; son-in-law, John Pinchot of Tennessee. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Adrienne Pinchot and Tyler Shustack of Ashland; Noelle Pinchot of Tennessee; and three great grandchildren Landyn, Greyson, and Neela.

Interment will follow at Skyview Memorial Park Tamaqua, PA.
