Obituary

Samuel Babyar, 93, of Mahanoy City, passed away Wednesday at Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, Conn.

Born in Mahanoy City, Dec. 20, 1918, he was a son of the late George and Anna Demeter Babyar.

Samuel graduated from Mahanoy City High School and served in the Army in World War II.

He worked for many years at Prudential Insurance.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Mahanoy City. In his earlier years, he attended Holy Emmanuel Slovak Lutheran Church.

He was a founding member of the Mahanoy City Golf Association. Besides golfing, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Hudock Babyar, in 1979; brothers, George Babyar and John Bobjar.

Surviving are daughters, Suzanne Rothbart, New Rochelle, N.Y., and Esther Redding, Gettysburg; sisters, Ellen Roberts, Oregon, Martha White, North Carolina, and Leah Cytronowicz, Willow Grove; and a sister-in-law, Blanche Babyar, Lehighton.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Mahanoy City. A religious service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church, Mahanoy City, with the Rev. Crawford officiating. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home on Saturday morning. Interment will be in Assumption BVM Cemetery, Mahanoy City, where a white dove will be released in his memory. The family prefers donations be made to Christ Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 4, Mahanoy City, PA 17948, or American Stroke Association , www.strokeassociation.org, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231, and both can be made at the funeral home.
