Obituary
Rita Blackwell, 86, originally of Shoemakers, PA, passed away Tuesday, January 7th, peacefully, at her daughters residence in Cumbola.
Rita was born in Shoemakers, on July 18, 1927, daughter of the late Mary (Naganonis) and Joseph Navakas.
She Worked in the local garment industry as well as Agricultural genetic research in Florida.
She loved Sewing, Quilting and to Crochet.
Attended Mahanoy Township Schools.
She was the wife of the late Joseph Blackwell.
Rita is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Harper, of Cumbola; Ester Mahmod, of Mahanoy City; Cyria Hart, of Ellen Gowan. And two sons Thomas Blackwell, of Mahanoy City; Jeffrey Blackwell, of Shoemakers; 8 Grandchildren and also Great Grandchildren
Preceded in death by a former husband Peter Mendinsky, a daughter Christine Medina, a brother Edward Navakas, and sisters Ann Kiss, Florence Russo, Phyllis Navakas, Violet Peel, and infant sisters Monica and Jessica.
A Service will be held at the Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. , Mahanoy City, PA, at 7:30 PM on Thursday, January 9th, with Paster Christopher Wollyung officiating.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 PM.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
