Mr. Paul Krukas, 70, of Barnesville passed away peacefully at home with his loving family and friends by his side Saturday, February 26th, 2011 after living courageously with brain cancer for the past 21 months.
Mr. Krukas was born in Mahanoy City, PA on November 22, 1940, the son of the late Stanley and Helen (Kersavage) Krukas, Vente.
Paul attended Mahanoy City High School and graduated in 1958. He served in the U.S. Navy. He then attended Bloomsburg State College and graduated in1965 with a degree in secondary education.
Paul was hired at Mahanoy Area in 1965, and proudly worked teaching US history and Social Studies at both the Intermediate and High School until he retired in 1997. While at Mahanoy, he served as assistant football coach early in his career. He also was an assistant and then head Athletic Director for 28 years until he retired.
He was an avid golfer and upon retirement enjoyed working at Mountain Valley Golf course.
Paul was a loyal Notre Dame fan and enjoyed many trips to South Bend with his family and friends.
Paul belonged to the Mahanoy City Golf League, the Travelers Protective Association, the Pennsylvania Athletic Directors Association, School Board for Mahanoy City Catholic, was a member of the Humane Fire Company for many years and Lector for many years at the former St Joseph Church.
A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, he was the husband of Anne (Whalen) Krukas who he has been married to for 46 years. His daughters are Amy Dobeck wife of Thomas of Barnesville, Lori Rizzo wife of John of Barnesville, and son Tim Krukas of Barnesville. grand children Jimmy and Bree, and step grandchildren, John, Marc, Matt and great grandchildren, Jordan and Christopher. Paul is survived also by nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish Mahanoy City, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City, PA, at 11Am Thursday. Interment will be at Skyview Memorial Park Tamaqua, PA.
Friends may call Wednesday 6 - 9 PM, and Thursday 9:30 AM at the funeral home in Mahanoy City.
Family prefers donations be made to, Paul M. Krukas Memorial Scholarship Fund and may be made at the funeral home.
