Obituary

Michael Pleva, affectionately known as Big Mike, passed away at the age of 83 on Tuesday, June 17th, 2025, at Green Valley Skilled Nursing & Rehab. Born on October 8, 1941, in Shenandoah, PA, he was the son of the late Helen (Sluzevich) and Edward Pleva.

Michael was a proud graduate of Mahanoy City High School and served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a dedicated worker, retiring as a Toll Collector for the PA Turnpike, and also held positions at Bethlehem Steel and as a Welder for Dorr Oliver.

He was a member of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Mahanoy City and actively participated in several organizations, including the MOOSE Lodge, TPA, Good American Fire Company, and the Park Crest Fish and Game Club.

Michael was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy (Ulshafer) Pleva, and his brother, Edward. He is survived by his daughter, Denise, and her husband, Paul Kanigoski, of Auburn; his sister, MaryAnn Krzemein, of Littleton, CO; his grandchildren, Corey, husband of Elizabeth, and Jordann Seasock; and his great-granddaughters, Elena and Lyla Seasock. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Michael's life will be held at the Good American Fire Company #3 in Mahanoy City at 11 AM on Friday, June 27th, with calling hours from 9 to 11 AM. Interment will follow at St Joseph Cemetery in Mahanoy City, PA. In honor of Mike's love for Penn State, the family encourages attendees to wear Penn State or Blue and White attire.
