"Mayor" John "Jack" Thomas, 65, of 900 W. Coal St., Shenandoah died Wednesday afternoon at his home.
Born in Shenandoah, July 27, 1944, he was a son of the late Charles and Rita Kelly Thomas.
A lifelong resident of Shenandoah, Jack was a 1961 graduate of J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah.
Jack loved Shenandoah and was a 28-year veteran of Shenandoah Police Dept., retiring as a lieutenant in 1993.
He
served two terms as mayor of Shenandoah. Jack had also been a truant
officer for the Shenandoah Valley School District. He was a current
member of Shenandoah Borough Council.
Jack had been a proud
member of the staff of the former Leonard Chaikowsky Funeral Home,
Shenandoah, where he continued with Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home
Inc.
He was a member of Annunciation BVM Roman Catholic Church,
Shenandoah, Fraternal Order of Police North Schuylkill Lodge 25,
Knights of Columbus, Phoenix Fire Company, Shenandoah, and Glover's
Hill Athletic Association.
He never forgot about September 11th.
He visited with Chief William A. Morange, who, on 9/11, governed over
all NYPD precincts and was Chief of Patrols. Chief Morange remembered
Jack's love, support and Mrs. T's Pierogies.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Thomas, in 1973; and a sister, Joan Thomas, in 2004
Surviving
are his wife, Agnes Tacelosky Thomas; a son, Michael and his wife,
Sharon Thomas and their daughters, Molly and Jenna, Belmont, Mass.; two
brothers, Edward Thomas, Ringtown, and Charles Thomas, Clearwater,
Fla.; three sisters, Charlotte Macker, Patricia Cooney and Mary Ellen
Dettrey, all of Shenandoah; nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be
held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home, 318 E.
Centre St., Shenandoah. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at
11 a.m. at St. Casimir Church, Shenandoah. Interment will be in
Annunciation BVM Cemetery, where a White Dove will be released at the
gravesite in his memory. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at
the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Father Walter
Ciszek Center and will be accepted at the funeral home.
