Lawrence E. Guinan, 93 of Barnesville, died December 18, 2012. Son of the late Richard and Julia (Whalen) Guinan. He was the last president of R.Guinan & Co Department Stores founded by his father in 1889. Mr. Guinan graduated from Mahanoy Township HS in 1936. A 1940 magnum cum laude graduate of Catholic University of America, he enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and was sent to Harvard Business School for Supply Corps Officer training before commissioning as Lt jg, and assignments to Adak in the Aleutians, Hawaii, Philippines and Guam, and remained in the Naval Reserves until early 1960's. He was Vice President and a director of The American Bank in Mahanoy City, and a director or advisory board member with American Bank of Reading, Meridian, First Union and Wachovia. Survived by his son, John L (Dr.Maryanne McGuckin) of Ardmore, PA. Grandson, John L. Jr., Esq. of Washington, DC and Granddaughter, Maryellen E., Esq. of Haverford, PA. , his brother-in-law, Edward Fanelli, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife of fifty four years, Marjorie (nee Fanelli), sister, Catherine and three brothers, Daniel, Richard, and Frank. Visitation 10-11AM on December 22 at St. Richard's Church, Barnesville, PA followed by Mass of Christian Burial with burial at Christ Church Cemetery, Barnesville, PA.
