Joseph J. Chaya Sr., 91, of Ashland, PA, passed away Sunday, August 30th, at Shenandoah Senior Living Community, Shenandoah.

Joseph was born in McAdoo, PA on August 25, 1929, a son of the late Julia (Macovitch) and John Chaya Sr.

He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker parish Frackville.

He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp. having served in Korea during the Korean Conflict.

Joe was retired from Eagle Brothers Shirt Factory as a cutting room marker.

Joe enjoyed home remodeling projects and woodworking.

He belonged to and was a Life member of the Good American Hose Company #3 Mahanoy City, American Legion Post 398 Frackville, and the USMC Motor Transportation Association.

He was the husband of Irene (Szott) Chaya.

Joe is also survived by a daughter, Nancy Baker and her husband Thomas, of Wyomissing; a son, Joseph Chaya Jr. and his wife Lisa, of Audubon PA. Joseph is also survived by a sister, Joan Oldham and her husband Doyle, of Altamonte Springs Fl., sisters in law Teresa Szott and Mary Poreca. Survived also by Grandchildren Elena and Olivia Chaya, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by a brother John J. Chaya Jr., and a sister Viola Hollandsworth, and a sister in law Sylvia Chaya.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph the Worker parish (St. Ann's 49 North Line Street), Frackville, PA, at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 11th, with Rev. Brian Miller officiating.

Friends and family may call Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at St. Joseph the Worker parish.

Interment will follow in the St. Casimir Cemetery Mahanoy City, PA.
