John Zukas, 98, of Barnesville, passed away Friday, June 27th, peacefully, at Hometown Nursing and Rehab Center.
John was born in Mahanoy City, PA on July 14, 1915, a son of the late Mary (Schvinikowski) and Florian Zukas.
He was a member of St. Richards Church Barnesville, .
He served in the U.S. Army as a T5 in WW II in England and Europe. Following the war he was the owner and baker of the former John A. Zukas Bakery in Mahanoy City.
He attended local schools, and was a member of the American Legion Post 74, Ryan Twp Fire Company. He loved baking, Hunting and Fishing, and Shooting his Rifles.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Kathryn (Maier) Zukas in 2011and by brothers Florian, Walter and Albert, and a sister Ann Gregoire.
Surviving is his care giver Judy Sanchez of Barnesville also nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Tuesday at St. Richards Church, Barnesville, with Father Whalen officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9 am.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery Mahanoy Twp.
