Obituary

John Zuban, 65, of Gilberton, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 7th, at Schuylkill Medical Center East Norwegian, Pottsville.

John was born in Gilberton, PA on September 10, 1950, a son of the late Albert and Kathryn (Bader) Zuban.

He worked for Schuylkill County Detention Center, was a substitute teacher at both Tamaqua and Mahanoy Area and was last employed as circulation manager for the former Shenandoah Evening Herald.

John was chief of the Gilberton Fire Company for many years and served on the Gilberton Borough Council where he also served as president. He also belonged to the Good American Fire Company in Mahanoy City.

He had graduated from Mahanoy Area class of 1968 and Shippensburg University Class of 1972 with a B.S. Degree in Secondary Education.

John was very much interested in geneology and made several trips to Slovakia researching his family history and spending time with relatives. He enjoyed visiting Ellis Island and sharing the knowledge gained with his relatives and became the family historian.

An avid sports fan, John enjoyed trips to attend and watch the Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, Iron Pigs and Philadelphia Eagles games.

He is survived by a sister and care taker, Julianne Zuban, of Gilberton, and numerous cousins.

Funeral Service will be held at St Michael The Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church, Frackville, at 10 am on Monday, July 11th.

Friends may call Monday 9 am at St Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church.

Family prefers a donation to St. Michael The Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Frackville in John's memory.

Interment at St Michael Ukrainian Cemetery Frackville, PA.
