John "Pete" McFarland, 84, of Mahanoy City passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon at Ridge View Manor in Shenandoah.

He was a life long resident of Mahanoy city where he was appointed Mayor from 1994 – 1998. He also worked as a police officer for the town as well and for the school board for both Mahanoy Area and IU 29 School Districts. He was Supervisor of Transportation for the Mahanoy Area School District until he retired in 1995.

He is preceded in death by his Mother Mary McFarland and a brother Jim McFarland

Surviving are his beloved family of which he adored so much. His wife of 55 years Joan Dalinsky McFarland and his children. Daughter Cheryl Connolly and her husband Mark, Auburn, Daughter Patti Jackson and her husband Steve, Morea and son Jack McFarland and his wife Cindy, Davidsonville, Md. Grandchildren Nadine Wolfe, and her husband Tim, Frackville, Timothy Jackson and his wife Danielle Frackville, Haley Jackson and her fiancé Zack Stevens, Nanticoke, and Alec Jackson, Morea. Also his Great Grandchildren who always put a smile on his face, Kamryn, Leah, Jace, Hudson and Gavin and his four legged companion Theodore.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City, PA, at 11 AM on Thursday, September 4th, with Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 9 AM at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish. Interment will be in St. Casimir Cemetery Mahanoy City, PA.

Family prefers donations to Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish and can be made at the church.
