Obituary

John M. "Duck" McClain, Jr. died unexpectedly at home in Shenandoah where he resided the past 4 years.  He was raised and lived most of his life in Mahanoy City.

Born in the former Locust Mountain Hospital, he was the son of the late John and Theresa Staconis Konsavage McClain. He was also the stepson of the late Edward Konsavage, Locust Valley.

John was of the Catholic faith. He graduated from St. Canicus Elementary School, Mahanoy City, and Marian Catholic High School/North Schuylkill Vocational School Class of 1977. He was also a graduate of Pennsylvania College of Technology earning his degree in Masonry.

During his youth John was a heck of a pitcher for the Fire Department Little League team and played ball for the Delano Colts Midget Football team. John earned his nickname "Duck" as a kid due to his impeccable impersonation of Donald Duck.  He was a loyal friend to many and a gentleman to all.  Several of his best friends were of the four-legged variety all of which were rescued animals adopted into a safe and loving home.  He enjoyed shooting pool and played in the local pool league.  As an avid Notre Dame fan, he handled that rollercoaster ride better than most.  He was also a fan of the Washington Redskins.  John had a fondness and special bond with Maria and his second Cousin Connor.

A Mason by trade, John spent his early career as a general contractor who was known for his exceptional brick work.  He last worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a Highway Inspector before his retirement.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by two brothers, David McClain and Daniel McClain as well as his maternal grandparents John and Madeline Staconis and paternal grandparents John and Elizabeth McClain and step-grandfather Patrick J. Maharg.

He is survived by brothers Michael McClain and his wife Colleen of Bristow, VA, and Kenneth, and wife Heather McClain of Allentown; a sister Shelly Konsavage, Locust Valley; nephews Mark, Aaron, Christopher, Daniel, Sean, and Nathaniel McClain; nieces, Katie Kik, and Angela McClain; two aunts, Patricia McClain Purcell Brown, Locust Valley, and Bernadine Staconis Kates, Barnesville.

Graveside services will be held Friday, November 25, 11am at St. Canicus Cemetery, Mahanoy City, with Deacon David Henninger presiding.
