Romain "Joanie" Mammarella, 89, of Mahanoy City, PA, passed away Friday, August 5th, at Lehigh Valley East Norwegian, Pottsville.

Joan Mammarella was born in Pottsville, on June 22, 1933, a daughter of the late Olga (Habeeb) and Paul Joseph.

She was a member of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish Mahanoy City, PA 17948.

She attended St. Patrick's Grade School and Pottsville Catholic High School.

Joan grew up in Pottsville and worked with her father and brother running the family grocery store on 2nd street.

Joan married Rocco George "Itsy" Mammarella in 1956, and 1958 moved with Itsy to Mahanoy City.

Among other ventures, Joan and Itsy were proprietors of the Village Inn Restaurant and Angela's Family Restaurant in Mahanoy City. Few can say they have never attended an event at the Village Inn, a Mahanoy City landmark.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband Itsy, her brother Thomas "Sonny" Joseph, and sisters Marie Mackarey and Bernice Johns.

Joan is survived by two daughters, Gina, wife of Edward "Ted" Curley of Hometown, Angela, wife of Sam Nassar of Annapolis, MD, son George, fiancé of Lydia Gimeno of Barnesville. Joan also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Ashley Connolly, wife to Michael Connolly, Jenna Nassar, Kristin Nassar, Marlee Nassar, & Alex Nassar, husband to Taylor, Thomas Joseph Kenn edy, husband to Laura, Rocco & Sophia Mammarella, and Karlee & Eddie Gimeno.

She also leaves behind four great grandchildren; Ella, Cullen, & Carson Connolly, and Charlotte Kennedy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City, PA, at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 13th, with Rev Leo Maletz officiating.

Friends and Family may call Friday 4 to 8 PM and Saturday 8:30 at Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home & Crematory Inc.

Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery Mahanoy City, PA.
