Obituary

George A. Peel, 84, of Mahanoy City, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at Orwigsburg Center.

George was born on June 6, 1928 in Mahanoy City, son of the late Michael and Mary (Kurtz) Peel. He attended Mahanoy City Schools & proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War.

He was employed and retired from the former City Shirt Co. in Mahanoy City and was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, now known as Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish Mahanoy City.

An avid outdoorsman, George enjoyed hunting and fishing all of his life and especially loved hunting with his sons during deer season. In his younger days, he was a skilled fly fisherman and fished many PA streams and lakes.

He enjoyed playing the penny slots at the casinos, listening to all kinds of music, especially country, cooking holiday meals for his family, and making yearly trips to Tennessee to visit his daughter and family.

George had a great sense of humor and was very quick witted. He had a way of telling stories that always made people laugh. He was kind to everyone and always found joy in the simple things in life.

He lived by his motto "do what you like and like what you do".

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary (Wargo) Peel in 2004; a daughter, Suzanne Blankenhorn in 1985; Brothers Joseph, Elmer, Michael and Jack; Sisters, Mary Macieunas, Florence Zaborsky, and Josephine Hyland.
