Frank J. Pangonis Sr.

Frank J. Pangonis Sr. , 73, of 311 Roosevelt Drive, New Boston, passed away Tuesday, May 25, peacefully, at his home.

Frank was born Jan. 22, 1937 in Mahanoy City a son of the late William and Alice " Slavitsky " Pangonis. He was the second youngest of six children and the last surviving member of his family.

Frank was a 1954 graduate of Mahanoy City High School. He served in the U.S. Army, in Germany, from 1955-1957 when he was honorably discharged.

He was a 33 year member of Mahanoy City B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge # 695, Lions Club, Mahanoy City Social Club, Knights of Lithuania , Good American Fire Co. and served on the associate board of the Keystone Financial Association. His family were charter members of the former St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mahanoy City. He was currently a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta parish. Frank was honored as " Citizen of the Year " by the Mahanoy City Elks in 2002.

He worked at H.J. Heiser Hardware ,Mahanoy City, for 53 years, along side his wife Joann, for the last 25 years. Frank is best known for his sense of humor, his willingness to help others in need and wearing his Indiana Jones hat. His family was the most important part of his life. He enjoyed traveling, sitting in his garden and socializing in his hardware store.

He was preceded in death by sisters; Mary Zematovich, Louise Buzza and Victoria Pangonis and brothers Joseph and Vincent Pangonis.

He will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 46 years Joann " Konidas " Pangonis, daughters Diane wife of Peter Butkus, Tuscarora, Karen wife of Richard Flynn, Mahanoy City, his son Frank Pangonis Jr. husband of Wendy " Klemovage " , New Boston, five grandchildren; Tyler Butkus, Joann Butkus, Trevor Flynn, Jessica Flynn and Allison Pangonis, several nieces and nephews and many friends. He will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Mass of Christian Burial, for Frank, will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Friday evening, in Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, Mahanoy City with Rev. Kevin Gallagher, Pastor as the celebrant. Friends may call at the church Friday from 4 p.m.until time of mass. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
