Florian L. Swokel, 87, of 20 Lia Road, Frackville, died Friday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Mahanoy City, March 24, 1921, he was a son of the late Joseph and Julia Piwowarski Swokel.

He lived most of his life in Mahanoy City and was a 1938 graduate of Mahanoy City High School.

He served in the Army Air Corps in England during World War II.

He retired from City Shirt Factory, formerly of Mahanoy City.

He was a member of St. Canicus Roman Catholic Church, Mahanoy City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Weber Swokel, who died Dec. 8, 2002; a son, James Swokel, who died in 1957; two brothers, Joseph Swokel in 1959 and Francis Swokel in 2002; a sister, Agnes Keim in 1999.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ellen, wife of Dr. Ivor Lewis, with whom he resided; a sister, Rose Swokel, Orwigsburg; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday from Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at St. Canicus Church. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, where a white dove will be released at graveside in his memory.

The family prefers memorial contributions to St. Canicus Church.
