Florence M. Wellington, 85, of Mahanoy City, passed away Tuesday after a short stay at Broad Mountain Nursing Home, Frackville.

Born in Mahanoy City, November 3rd, 1930, Florence was the daughter of the late George and Mary Katchmaric Singlar. A 1948 graduate of Mahanoy City High School, Florence worked in local factories, and the Pennsylvania Discount Grocery Store in Mahanoy City, but was predominately a homemaker raising her family.

Florence enjoyed reading, doing crosswords puzzles, and spending time with family.  She especially liked to cook. Her unique family recipes have been shared with generations of family members, and will continue to be a part of family dinner traditions such as Christmas Eve's Holy Supper.

Florence was the Vice President of Branch 55 of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, and a member of the Frackville Senior Citizens.  She was a member of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church in Mahanoy City.

Proceeding Florence in death in addition to her parents were her husband, Joseph, daughter Florence, sons, James and Richard, and brother, George Singlar Jr.

Those who will keep her memory alive include daughter, Mary Lou Henninger and her spouse, Wayne, Frackville; grandchildren, Wayne Henninger and his spouse, Lori, Orwigsburg; Noel LaBert and her spouse, Daniel, Alpharetta, Georgia; Leilani Chesonis, and her spouse Derrick, Patriotic Hill; Angela Wellington, Pottsville; Christina Wellington, Mahanoy City; James Wellington Jr., Mahanoy City; Richard Wellington Jr., New Orleans; and Bernie Whalen, Mahanoy City.  Great grandchildren include: Kade, Ruby, and Beck Henninger, Orwigsburg; Gwen LaBert, Alpharetta, Georgia; and Ethan Hollenbach, Mahanoy City.

The family would prefer donations in Florence's name be made to the Mahanoy Area Historical Society, the Mahanoy City Public Library, the Saint Vincent DePaul Society or Action Youth Group of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, or a charity of your choice.

Friends may call at the funeral home in Mahanoy City from 6 to 9pm Sunday October 16 ^th , and from 9:30am Monday October 17 ^th . Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish Mahanoy City with Father Kevin Gallagher Officiating.
