Florence Helen (Gormas) Stanakis, 91, Mahanoy City, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday morning, March 27.
Florence was the daughter of Matthew and Frances (Wasilewski) Gormas. She lived in Mahanoy City her entire life. She is survived by son Peter and Bridget, along with her grandson, Peter Andrew, with whom she resided in Mahanoy City ; daughter Jan and Mike Hannah, of Huntington Beach, California; son Robert and Carol, of Ringtown; son Matthew and Carol, of Mahanoy City; and daughter Carole Garber, of Barnesville. She is survived by grandchildren Peter Andrew; Dale, Robert, and Michael Stanakis; Mark Stanakis and Terri Hillibush; Quinten Garber and Lynley Carroll; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter, in 1986; her sister, Alma Lukach; and her brother, Francis Gormas.
She worked in Russell Williams dress factory for many years and was a talented and experienced seamstress. Florence is a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Church. For many years, she was a member of the parish choir and the St. Magdalen's Society.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday, April 10, between 9 and 11 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with family friend Rev. William Linkchorst presiding. The family would prefer contributions to a charity of your choice in Florence 's name.
