Florence Shimkus, 86, of 1404 E. Centre St., Mahanoy City, died at noon Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.
Born in Mahanoy City, Feb. 9, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Terway Shimkus.
She lived in Mahanoy City her entire life.
She
graduated from Mahanoy Area High School in 1939 and attended McCann
School of Business. She had been a secretary at the former Mahanoy City
Wholesale Grocers. She also had been a legal secretary for attorney
Anthony Miernicki, Shenandoah.
She was a member of Blessed
Teresa of Calcutta Roman Catholic Church, Mahanoy City. She was also a
member of the parish St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Knights of
Lithuania, Saint Clair.
She was preceded in death by two
brothers, Father Bernard Shimkus, Nov. 10, 1996, and Leonard Shimkus,
March 1, 1987; and a sister, Beatrice Shimkus, Feb. 14, 1992.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Joan Shimkus, Mahanoy City; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Louis D. Truskowsky
Funeral Home, Mahanoy City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Roman Catholic Church,
Mahanoy City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral
home. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Mahanoy City, where a
white dove will be released at the graveside in her memory.
