Obituary
Florence Ball, 97, formerly of Mahanoy City, died early Sunday morning at her residence at Broad Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.
Florence was born in Mahanoy City, a daughter of the late William Truskowski and the former Agnes Gillis. She lived in Mahanoy City all of her life and was a graduate of Mahanoy City High School.
Along with her husband, she had been the proprietor of Vic Ball's Meat Market. She had also worked at the Russell William Dress Factory, formerly of Mahanoy City, and had served as the Mahanoy City tax receiver.
Florence was an avid quilter and artist and one of the last Mahanoy City Social Club "Gibson Girls." She was honored by the PA Secretary of Aging for being the oldest "PEER" representative, where she helped her fellow residents with nursing home related issues.
Florence is the last of her generation in the Truskowski family.
She was the wife of the late Victor Ball.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her brothers, Frank Truck, Albin Truskowski, William Truskowski and Louis Truskowsky; sisters, Nellie Murtin, Frances Andris, Agnes Weller and Petrie Gutsie.
Florence is survived by sons, Victor Ball and his wife, Joanne, Pittsburgh, and George Ball and his wife, Suzie, Mahanoy City; daughters, Florence "Betsy" Day, Mahanoy City, Lucille, wife of John Sullivan, Mahanoy City, Michelle and her husband, Jere Haldeman, Marmora N.J., and Mary Wohnhaas, Alexandria Va.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home Inc. with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Roman Catholic Parish, Mahanoy City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown, where a white dove will be released in her memory. Memorial donations may be made to the Activities Department of Broad Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 500 W. Laurel Blvd., Frackville, PA 17931 or at the funeral home.
