Daniel Frank "Murph" Murphy, 48, died in his sleep at his Mahanoy City home on Oct 5.
He was born Sept. 27, 1966, to the late Eleanor Brylewski Murphy and Patrick Murphy.
He graduated from Mahanoy Area High School in 1984.
He served 10 years in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged.
Danny worked his adult life as a corrections officer at the Frackville Correctional Institution.
In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his brother David who passed away in 1985. He is survived by father, Patrick, of Mahanoy City; his sister, Mary Jan and her wife, Mary Heath of Newport News, Va., Mary Jan's children, Travis and Brittany Seely; his brother, Patrick, of Westminster, Colo., and his son, Schiller, of Denver.
Danny's family wants to thank Sandy Paulukonis, Danny's partner and love, for her support and her love for Danny.
Danny is fondly remembered and is missed by his many, many friends.
He did have many friends, and they might all agree he was a man of few words who spoke nonstop.
His brother, Patrick, described his use of the English language as that of firing a machine gun.
His words came out quickly and with force, and more often than not they projected warmth and love but were coated with sarcasm or irony.
Danny loved to read the work of Stephen King and he loved watching movies.
Another of his passions was golf. He took yearly trips with friends and coworkers to North Carolina to golf. He also golfed as often as he could pretty much anywhere he could, especially if he could get a 5 a.m. tee time.
Paramount in his life was a love of the Philadelphia Flyers, with the Cincinnati Bengals coming in a very close second.
He was inducted in the Mahanoy City Little Hall of Fame this year. His record of hitting 19 home runs in one season still stands.
Testimony to his life are his friends' deep love and affection for him.
He could be counted on.
He was trusted.
He is and will be missed by so many.
