Carmella Shemansik, 83, of 400 W. Pine St., Mahanoy City, died Friday morning at her home.
Born in Shenandoah, Feb. 20, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Guyda and Margaret Fesco Guyda.
She lived most of her life in Shenandoah and Mahanoy City.
She attended Shenandoah schools.
She
had worked at the former Locust Mountain Hospital as a nurse's aid, at
Shen-Ann dress factory in Frackville, at General Cigar in Shenandoah
and as a cook at Brevo's Restaurant in Shenandoah. She was proud to
have picked potatoes on a farm for a dollar a day.
She was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Mahanoy City.
She was also a member of West End Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Mahanoy City, and Mahanoy Area Senior Citizens.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on Jan. 3, 2005; and six
brothers, Daniel, Morris (a child), Joseph, Frank, Angelo and Morris
(an adult) Guyda.
Surviving are sons, Joseph Shemansik, New
Boston, Mahanoy City, and John Shemansik, Summit Hill; a daughter,
Margaret Ann Shemansik, at home; seven grandchildren; and nieces and
nephews.
Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Mahanoy City. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home Inc., Mahanoy City.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Louis D. Truskowsky
Funeral Home Inc., Mahanoy City. Interment will be in the parish
cemetery, Mahanoy City, where a white dove will be released at the
grave side in her memory.
