Obituary

Blaine E. Layton Sr., 90, of 52 Second Boulevard, Brandonville, Ringtown, died Wednesday evening at Cardinal Care Home, Lincolnton, N.C. He lived in Brandonville most of his life.

Born in Dawson, May 3, 1918, he was a son of the late John and Ella Mae Vernon Layton.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the South Pacific and Solomon Islands.

Blaine was a heavy equipment operator and bridge builder for various construction companies and was a member of the Union of Operating Engineers. He was also a member of Brandonville Fire Company.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Ney Layton, on July 21, 2005; five brothers, Martin, John, Harry, James and Ralph; two sisters, Otha ?and Florence.

He was the last member of his immediate family.

Surviving are a son, Blaine E. Layton and his wife, Diana, Denver, N.C.; a daughter, Judith A. Robinson and her husband, Lester, Henderson, Nev.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday from Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home Inc., Mahanoy City, with the Rev. Mindy Heppe officiating. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Brandonville, where a white dove will be released at the grave side in his memory. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
