August "Gus" Futyma, 83, Mahanoy City, PA, passed away Thursday, January 21st, at Broad Mountain Manor Nursing Home, Frackville.
August was born in Elizabeth, NJ on July 14, 1932, a son of the late Frances (Faldzinski) and August Stanley Futyma.
Gus attended Linden High School in New Jersey.
He was a member of St. Marys Byzantine Catholic Church Mahanoy City.
He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service as a Sergeant First Class, and had been in the Vietnam and Korean Wars.
Gus had also retired from Ashland Hospital where he worked for many years as a Respiratory Technician.
Gus was past president of Local 2482 AFSCME Council 89 and member of Council 13. He was also a member of the Damato Post of the American legion in Shenandoah.
He was the husband of Lucille (Lahutsky) Futyma.
August is also survived by two daughters, Christina McDermott, of Hagerstown MD; Ann Futyma, of Shenandoah, and two sons August S. Futyma III, of Norton Mass; Eric Futyma, of Dallas Tx.; a step son, Francis Collins, of Ridley Park PA.
August is also survived by a sister, Rosemary Robbins, of Toms River NJ; two brothers, Edward, of Huntington MD; Frank, of Sneedville TN; and by 4 Grandchildren 2 Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Office of Christian Burial and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 11am on January 27, at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Mahanoy City, with Father Jim Carroll officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 am.
Interment will take place in the National Cemetery Fort Indiantown Gap Annville, PA.
