Obituary

Anthony "Tony" Saluta, 95, of 6508 Charles St., Macungie, formerly of 537 E. Market St., Mahanoy City, died Good Friday.

Born in Shenandoah, Feb. 12, 1913, he was a son of William and Mary Boransky Saluta. He attended Shenandoah schools.

He served in the Army prior to World War II in Panama, then later in the European Theatre, including being surrounded in Bastogne at the Battle of the Bulge.

He retired from St. Nicholas Breaker in 1978.

He was an avid model airplane hobbyist and enjoyed flying his planes with the Tuscarora Model Airplane Club. He loved all animals, with his kindness extending to even the tiniest of creatures.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, the former Alberta Polubinsky; brothers, William and Albert; a sister, Margaret Parfitt.

Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy, wife of Leslie Schaffer, Macungie, with whom he resided; a brother, Daniel, Helendale, Calif.; granddaughters, Colleen, wife of Victor Eckert, Cabot, Ark., Heather, wife of Gary Schmidt, Toms River, N.J.; a great-grandson, Victor Eckert Jr.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from Louis D. Truskowsky Funeral Home Inc., Mahanoy City. Interment will be in Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown, where a white dove will be released at the grave side in his memory. The family asks that contributions be made in Tony's memory to Animals in Distress, 5075 Limeport Pike, Coopersburg, PA 18036
