Helen Hopko

Helen Hopko, 101, Formerly of Morea Colliery, died Monday at Rest Haven, Schuylkill Haven. Born in Morea, May 24, 1911, She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Mahal Horas.

Helen attended Mahanoy Township High School and was employed in the local garment industry.

She was the oldest parishioner of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Mahanoy City.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Basil, in 1988.

She was the last member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by brothers John, Andrew, and George, and sisters Anna, Mary, Elizabeth, and Susan.

Helen is survived by sons Robert, widower of Gladys, Wernersville, and John, husband of Mary, Wernersville, and daughters Stephanie, wife of John Shandor, St. Clair, and Paula wife of David Christensen, Wernersville. Seven Grandchildren: Robert, John Daniel, Joanna Sockel, Lisa Shade, Camille Habacker, Ivana Bradley, and Alexander Christensen. Eight great-grandchildren: Jacob and Lucas Sockel, Sierra and Leia Shade, Veronica and Lincoln Habacker, and Mitchell and Leo Bradley. Nieces and Nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday 11am July 19, 2012 at St Mary Byzantine Catholic Church Mahanoy City with Father James Carroll officiating. Friends and Family may call from 9am until time of service at the Church. Interment will follow at St Mary Byzantine Cemetery Mahanoy City.
